What experience and education do I need to be an insurance claims adjuster?
Posted by admin
I am 59 and looking to change from administrative assistant career to something else.
It depends on the company's policy. My old company you needed a B.A./B.S. to be a casualty adjuster and only an A.A/A.S. to be an adjuster for single car claims. If you were a single car claims adjuster long enough you could move to the casualty adjuster.
I got the job right out of college with no experience just a degree.

Does Progressive advocate well for their clients with car insurance claims?
Posted by admin
I got a letter today from Progressive, 17 months after a minor fender-bender in which the police officer didn't even cite me because there was no damage to either car nor were either of us hurt, that "it appears that the damages may be in excess of my coverage limits." Progressive already paid her $300 for cosmetic damage to her bumper, but apparently after all this time she is submitting something else. Do car insurance companies do a good job of representing the client? I'm starting to feel like a victim!

What if the insurance company claims you are at fault but the police report says otherwise?
Posted by admin
I was in a car accident in which I went through an intersection with a green light and was t-boned by another car. She of course is saying she had the green but the police report states her as at fault. My insurance has decided I am not at fault, but her's says I am. What happens now?
The police report is just a tool - it is not the end all be all in an insurance investigation. Your company is believing your word and her company believes her.
So - if you have collision coverage you use that to pay for your vehicle.
If the two insurance companies are members of Arbitration Forums - they will file Arb and the panel will make a decision that is binding on both companies.
Your best bet is to follow up with your adjuster and ask them what happens now. Since your adjuster is familiar with your policy - coverages and the facts of loss - they are better able to advise you of the next step.
Collisions with Deer and Moose Spike This Holiday Season Fat

Collisions with Deer and Moose Spike This Holiday Season Fatal Crashes Up 50% Since 2000 November is the peak month for vehicle-deer collisions, and a new analysis of insurance claims and federal crash data indicate the problem is growing. The Highway Loss Data Institute (HLDI), an affiliate of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), recently examined insurance claims for animal strikes under comprehensive coverage month by month from January 2005 through April 2008. The main finding is that insurance claims for animal collisions are nearly 3 times higher during November than the typical month earlier in the year. For example, for every 1,000 insured vehicles 14 claims were filed in November 2007, compared with an average of 5 claims per 1,000 during January-September. Insurance claims usually don’t specify the animal involved, but other data show that deer are the main ones.
Most vehicle-animal collisions aren’t severe enough to injure people, but data from the federal government show that crash deaths are increasing. In 1993, 101 people died in crashes involving animals. By 2000, the number was 150, and in 2007 it was 223. The states with the largest number of total deaths are Texas with 227 deaths during 1993-2007, Wisconsin with 123, and Pennsylvania with 112.
Analyzing monthly data on fatal crashes of passenger vehicles and animals during the past 3 years, IIHS researchers found patterns similar to those reported by HLDI. Depending on the year, the crash deaths occurred most frequently in October or November.
